The Earth has orbited the Sun full circle once more. Glad we made it. Special days, deserve special treats. For me, i gifted myself a poem from one of my favourite scribes, William Butler Yeats, “When You are Old”.
When You are Old
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
– WB Yeats (1865-1939)
And the following shall be my reply:
When You are Young
When you are young and bright and swift with gay,
And singing full of joy, bear note this piece;
Quietly observe a moment of peace
That all you are now is a dawning day.
You wonder aloud where and which and why,
The light of youthful ignorance has passed.
Belief in the right, no wish to be last,
Time for difference, no sorrow, no cry
This day, you stand on high and bind full tall
Looking to me and the horizon falls;
Wonder, hope, truth, heart are your thoughts on call,
Beat abreast its your turn to give your all.
